神社境内に建築を建てるとき、どのようにその混成系をつくることができるだろうか。境内を削るでもなく、境内と同化するでもない、重なり合うような設計を目指した。境内の建築性を細やかに拾い上げながら、その場所ごとへの対応によって全体を作っていく。このリノベーションのような手法が、神社境内に対する唯一の敬意の示し方だと思う。

Where Shrine and Architecture Meet

When building within the precincts of a shrine, how can we create a hybrid system? Our goal was to create a design that neither diminishes nor assimilates with the shrine precincts, but rather overlaps with them. While picking up the architectural characteristics of the precincts in detail, we created a whole by responding to each location. I believe that this renovation-like approach is the only way to show respect for the shrine precincts.
