わが国の神社建築最大の特徴は建築群とそれらを紡ぐ外部空間の密接な関係によって1つの「まとまり」が形成されていることである。それぞれの建築には異なる役割が与えられていることに、神社そのものに混成系としてのポテンシャルを認めてみたいと思う。元々自然崇拝から始まった神社であるが、祈願よりはむしろ奉納の受け皿として舞殿・絵馬殿に代表される建築が神域に輪郭を与え今に発展してきた。この変遷は神事に対して神賑という概念を育んでいる。

本計画ではあくまで神社の延長として境内を拡張・再編成し、京都芸術大学のサテライトキャンパスとしても使い重ねる。ここでは学生の創作活動に付加価値を与える地域密着型の新たな大学像をもって、それらに観光客や地域住民が対価を支払うことを「二次奉納」と定義する。奉納行為が日常に近いものになることで、私たちと神社の心の距離を再編集することを試みる。神社という場をビルディングタイプではなくインフラストラクチャーとして捉えたとき、そこに明日の境内都市が浮かび上がる。

The greatest characteristic of Japanese shrine architecture is the close relationship between the buildings and the exterior space that weaves them together to form a cohesive whole. The fact that each building has been given a different role in the architecture suggests that the shrine itself has the potential to be a hybrid system. Originally, shrines began as a place of nature worship, but rather than being a place of prayer, the buildings represented by Maiden halls and Emado halls have developed as a receptacle for votive offerings, giving the sacred space its outline. This transition has fostered the concept of kami-goto, or "godly activity," in response to Shinto rituals.

In this project, the precincts of the shrine will be extended and reorganized as an extension of the shrine, and will also be used as a satellite campus of Kyoto University of Art. We define "secondary dedication" as the payment of money by tourists and local residents for a new, community-based university image that adds value to the creative activities of students. By making the act of dedication closer to everyday life, we attempt to re-edit the emotional distance between us and the shrine. When we view the shrine as an infrastructure rather than a building type, the precinct city of tomorrow will emerge.
